Description

Original photo Ronald Koeman Tenerife - Barcelona Match Ronald Koeman (pronunciation: ˈroːnɑlt ˈkumɑn) (Zaandam, March 21, 1963) is a Dutch former footballer and football coach. He is currently the Netherlands coach. He is recognized for being the highest scoring defender in history, with 253 goals in 535 games, 1 although many of them were scored as a pivot, since he alternated with that of defender in his career.2 As a footballer he stood out playing, especially, as a libero. He played for the three big Dutch clubs: Ajax Amsterdam, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord Rotterdam; and at F. C. Barcelona. In the latter he was part of the team that won the first European Cup in its history thanks to a legendary goal by Koeman himself in the final on May 20, 1992, against Unione Calcio Sampdoria. During his six-year stay in Barcelona he would also win four leagues, a Copa del Rey, three Spanish Super Cups and a European Super Cup. He would also be one of the players who contributed to PSV Eindhoven being crowned European champion in the 1987-88 season in the penalty shootout, in which final he took the first penalty against Sport Lisboa e Benfica. He was part of the Netherlands soccer team that would become champion of Euro 1988 in Germany.3
