Artist Signed Hand Cast Bronze Clad Foundry Stone Owl Sculpture By Listed Sculptor Joseph Lorkowski Boulton In patinated cast-stone, depicting an owl perched on a log; signed in the cast, "Boulton" and "SC" (Sculpture Collectors Ltd.) to base. A mid-century modern / brutalist "Owl" sculpture by Westport, CT artist Joseph Lorkowski Boulton 1896-1981. "Owl" measures approx. 9-1/2 inches high by 5-1/2 inches wide, and weighs almost 8 pounds. Hand cast in foundry stone with a bronze clad patina with felt covered base. In very good overall condition with a few minor scuffs, scratches, etc., but no dents, repairs, missing elements. Biography: Joseph Lorkowski Boulton (American, 1896-1981) Born in 1896, Boulton, the son of a carpenter, developed a fascination for the creative aspects of his father's craft. In 1915, he enrolled in the National Academy of Design, where sculptor Herman MacNeil, one of his instructors, profoundly influenced his sense of design. Excelling in his art, Boulton is considered an influential sculptor of his era, with his work reflecting a profound love for wildlife and Native American culture.
